Topic: REVELATION FROM GENESIS … part 6. (Unraveling the mystery about Noah)
Text : Genesis 5: 28,29.
28: And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
29: And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.
The curse on humanity through Adam was bitting hard on them. The hardship was much on them that there was no account of a wealthy man from the time of Adam to the time of Noah in the bible, with the duration of 1,656 years.
Lamech had observed that the human race had being plagued to toil hard to make ends meet. When he had Noah he gave a prophecy by the Spirit of the Lord about Noah’s purpose for living, let’s analyse the prophecy:
And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed. Genesis 5:29.
It was obvious that their labour was not blessed. The ground was not yielding increase unto them, everyone before Noah had record of low output.
Noah coming to fulfil that prophecy, first of all, he obeyed God’s instructions about the construction of an ark, and prepare the way for God to water the earth and flush its defilements. Noah and his family survived the flood because they obeyed God’s instructions.
The flood wasn’t meant to flush human beings, even animals, but to cleanse the earth of the harsh effects of the curse on the ground as a result of Adam’s disobedience. The flood was to bring relief to humanity by making the cursed ground fruitful again. How do I know all these?
Look at Genesis 9:1.And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
2: And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
3: Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
This is the same pronouncemet on Adam and Eve before they sinned. Look at it here;
Genesis 1: 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29: And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
The blessings that was eroded by the curses placed on Adam was returned on Noah and his sons from whom the families of the earth emerged after the flood.
What do we learn from this? Sin and disobedience bring curses, while obedience to divine instructions brings blessings. Sins makes one to live a cursed life while obedience in righteousness bring blessings.
