Topic: REVELATIONS FROM GENESIS..part 3
Text: Genesis 1:3.4.
3: And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4: And God saw that the light was good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it; and God separated the light from the darkness.
The word “darkness” in the Hebrew is “choshek,” and it means darkness, misery, destruction, death, sorrow and wickedness. With this word added, we can really see a different picture of the beginning of this creation. This word used here for darkness is not the only option for “darkness,” and if God was trying to get across to us the absence of light, it is not the word to use.
Another word in Hebrew for “darkness” is “ophel.” If God just wanted us to get the idea of darkness, as in the absence of light, I believe this is the one that he would have used. The truth is by using the one he did use, “choshek,” we get a whole new idea of what he is saying. By using “choshek,” we find that there was misery, destruction, death, wickedness and sorrow present.
When God said let there be light it is beyond absence of darkness as I explained in part 2. As any uninhabited place will look dangerous for human being to live so was the state of the earth until God spoke forth light.
God made a beautiful garden called Eden. Eden is an Hebrew word meaning ‘ place of pleasure and delight ‘.
Let’s me create a picture of what happened. It is like when a wealthy man goes to a deserted place, uninhabited place, desolated place and made out a beautiful garden from the desolated place. I will link this up with how Adam returned humanity to emptiness in part 4.
God built a place of pleasure, delight, comfort for human being. A place of no stress, no pain, sickness, no hunger, no death ( you can see that from the meaning of choshek the Hebrew used for darkness in our text).
God created man that should never die since he cannot die and we are made in his image, but we lost it in Adam and regain it in Jesus.
Darkness exit your life today in the name of Jesus.
