PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
16th January, 2025.
Topic: WHY DO WE WITNESS ANOTHER YEAR? part 2.
Text: Luke 13:1-9.

6: Then Jesus told this story: “A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed.
7: Finally, he said to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’ NLT

The planter according to our passage came again and again to watch the fig tree, this means that the planter is watching out for something, he had expectations, he kept coming to see if his expectations will be met.

The planter had given the fig tree sometime to meet his expectations but he was always being disappointed.

It is important to know that God has expectations for our lives, just as we have expectations over our children, we expect them to excel in their studies, we expect them to come home with good results, in like manner God has expectations over our lives.

Look at the phrase ‘ he was always disappointed ‘. I think the disappointment comes as a result of lack of consciousness of the fact that we are accountable to God.

You see, it is important to be conscious of the fact of that we are not of ourselves, we do not owe ourselves. How do I know? Psalms 100:3 Know (perceive, recognize, and understand with approval) that the Lord is God! It is He Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]! We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Amplified.

This is like driving someone’s car, you wouldn’t want to tell him that it has an accident. We all are accountable to God in our dealings, both in relating with him (God) or with our fellow human beings.

Cain failed to realize that he was accountable to God in his dealings with his brother, he paid dearly for it. Whatever position you are; either high or low, know that you’re accountable to God in all your endeavors.

Everyone who takes eternity seriously will make up his or mind and tell God ‘ I won’t disappoint you this year ‘.

Verse 7 of our passage delivered vital message; Finally, he said to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’ Waited 3 years ‘ means the tree has been given enough time to bear fruit, but yet it remain barren.

I see God saying, ‘ I have given you enough time to amend your ways, but yet you are still the same ‘, you have lived several years, heard the gospel of Christ many times, yet you’re still the same. When you see many evil doers still living, God is simply waiting for them to amend their ways, but you can be sure that he won’t wait forever.

After a life of disappointment, the giver of life said ‘ …Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden ‘, I see God saying some people are just taking space on earth, their lives are not meaningful. Some sinful people, ungodly people, unrepentant sinners, backsliding christians are just taking space in the earth, and God is seriously considering cutting them down. May you not be cut down.

God sees some people as ‘ matter ‘, they have weight and are occupying space. Research has proven that the world is over populated, some people are just occupying space, their lives are not profitable to God, God is not pleased with their existence, but he is giving them another year to make their wrongs right, live right, bear fruit of righteousness, serve God and abstain from sin. Give yourself to Jesus and be born again.

PRAYER.
* I receive grace to live right this year in Jesus name.
