Topic: UNRAVELING THE MYSTERY HIS BLOOD
Text: Hebrews 9:12.
12: He went once for all into the [Holy of] Holies [of heaven], not by virtue of the blood of goats and calves [by which to make reconciliation between God and man], but His own blood, having found and secured a complete redemption (an everlasting release for us). Amplified.
Many people, Christians inclusive, seek explanations to some biblical doctrines and teachings, not knowing there are answers in the same bible they carry. I trust God to help me deliver this teaching in the best way you will understand.
Some people wonder why God is interested in the killings of animals for atonement for sin in the first place, and later replacing it with the death and resurrection of Jesus. I have got answers from the bible; please follow me patiently.
When laws and orders are not maintained there will be anarchy, imagine a world without punishment for sin, even sin with capital punishment people still commit. The system of Justice God operates is that a sinner must die. How do I know? I will show you scriptures from old testament and new testament.
Let’s begin with Adam and Eve Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Their celestial being died, that is the reason they realized they were naked, how do I know? celestial beings don’t wear clothes.
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
So, death then became the punishment for sin, just as there is punishment for criminal offences in every nation.
Let’s check new testament;
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
It therefore means that every time there is sin there must be death. So, it will be injustice on the part of God if there is no consequence for sin committed after he punished Adam and Eve, after the people in the days of Noah were swept by flood. So, God prescribed the killing of animals to replace the death of human beings as atonement for their sins.
In the new testament God gave Jesus to lay down his life for all men. In the justice system of God death is the penalty for sin, it is unjust to pardon anyone without any life be given for his or her life. God would be unfair to Adam, Eve and all the people that died in the days of Noah by flood if no one dies for us and we are pardoned. So it was expedient for Jesus to died that we might be pardoned of our sins.
If you study the book of Leviticus God laid emphasis on the blood of animals being used as atonement for sins, and in the new testament the emphasis is on the blood of Jesus. The question is why blood? The word ‘ blood ‘ is from the Hebrew word called ‘ dām ‘. It is used to refer to blood, life, humanity and the connection between human life and the ground.
So, when we say the ‘ blood of Jesus ‘ it refers to the life of Jesus, as the lives of animals were taken so that human beings could live in the old testament, so also was Jesus’ life taken for us to live in the new testament. The good news is that death couldn’t hold on to him. God bless you. Happy Easter.
